The Kilij has an L-shaped hilt which offers a very stable grip and ensures the sword won’t get torn out of the hand when used from a mounted position.

The style of sabre, which we know today as the Kilij, dates back to the 15th century and was very popular among Turkic and Persian cultures in the Middle East. As its popularity grew a lot of the sabres used by European militaries in the 17th to 19th centuries got inspired in their design by the Turkish Kilij.

The main difference between a Kilij and other types of Middle Eastern Scimitars is the broad blade with a yelman. The rest of the Scimitars, for example the Persian Shamshir, are usually more curved than the Kilij and have thinner blades.

The hilt of this sabre is made of hard semi-flexible rubber and is fitted with wooden handles, brass decorations and features a hole which can be used for attaching a tassel for decorative purposes. Inside the hilt there are steel and lead weights for better balance.
